New Music

I've been ruminating the acquisition of two new CD's. Have heard great reviews. Have heard good live performances. The final say was when I walked into Borders last night and the wanted-CD-#1 was playing. Got to listen to a large portion of the songs on said CD. The joy settled, however, when the wanted-CD-#2 followed it. Both CD's have been downloaded and now I'm recommending.

Bruce Springsteen - We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions

EmmyLou Harris & Mark Knopfler - All The Roadrunning

Both are outstanding projects by such seasoned musicians. Both fall into the folk/country category. But if you enjoy good American roots music, both CD's will deliver.

Did you know you were the reason I went out and bought the Sting/Police Greatest Hits album? You were listening one day on a Chorale trip, and we briefly talked about it. So...it made me want one, and I got it. Chad and I pull it out often especially in the van on long trips. It's a good one to blare with the windows down and sing at the top of your lungs. Bet you didn't know that.

Jason's dad is always calling our Emmy, EmmyLou. I think she's the only one we know... Well, we don't KNOW her, oh, you know what I mean!

Hey! Hate to send this to the blog, but couldn't find you e-mail address... I heard some of the gay rights discussion but I don't think it was "On Point". I didn't catch a lot of it as the kids were all talking on the way to school. I'll check the website and see it I can find it. E-mail me your thoughts! jandholly@yahoo.com

Jenn,
May I commend you on your choice of discs! Took the Seeger Sessions to Marisa's & she told me you'd posted about this & the new Alison Krauss CD. (I never knew where your blog was) I immediately began scouring QUAD-Linc for that one & then when I found your blog saw L'il Sis was wrong (again). I checked out (& burned) All the Roadrunning 2 weeks ago and thought it was great also. Next up? Best of Chris Isaak. I'd really like that bad boy. I'm still a sucker for Wicked Game even after all this time. So anyway, now that I have found you, I'll be posting here more (whether you like it or not) ;-)
Cheers,
jefe

Thanks for the heads up - I love good folk! Every now and then I get in a mood that only a solid day of folk music can satiate.

bruce springsteen is playing in concert in wisconsin in the very near future and it has caused quite the issue. apparently, while seeger supports the union, and springsteen is covering his stuff, his is playing at a non-union venue [or some jazz like that] and it is getting protested. just on a related note. this is kate zuccarello from madison, signing off. back to you jenn.

Just saw the Asher Lev books on your bookcase and had to say that they are some of my very favorites. I would love to join a book club or something to discuss them because not many people I know have read them.

I know your name but cannot "pull up" your face from my memory...Jim and I went to IWU and worked at Lakeview and College church(es).

the question is now did I am I responding to your comment because you asked me if I would or because I was gonna anyway? We shall never know.

However, you MAY commend me on my music choices. I think we've generally found ourselves on the same pages as it regards this stuff (eg - Lyle Lovett, Alison Krause). I would be interested in hearing what some of your favorite tracks are on the All The Road Running... and your thoughts on the campy feel of Springsteens new one.

Heard Isaak on an NPR (of course) interview a few weeks ago. I think he's got something new out. Compilation or whatever.

Is this a good enough reply for you?
